Ready for landing

I think they had a special at Menard's on carriage lights, what do you think?

The new "lighting store" aka condo conversion down the street from us is trying get planes to land in their courtyard. I think I'm going to call the Alderman about this....

Footnote: total of 10 lights with 4 shades and bulbs per fixture + 2 lights at the entry gate + a sconce on each entry door of which there are 4 comes to grand total of 46 lightbulbs burning brightly. Actually tonight I noticed 3 burned out already.

I think I like picking on condo conversions. I'm bad. (sound effect: evil maniacal laughter in the background)

That is a bit much, isn't it. Is this ridiculous waste of energy supposed to be some sort of selling point for the timid to be lured back in to the inner city? "That's right folks, more lights means you're safer! Come and enjoy the charm of the city from the safety of your living room while we create daytime just outside to scare away those awful gangsters"

More lights means another generation of children won't experience a night sky full of stars. We are lucky if we see any here in Ohio.

It actually looks kind of "normal" in the photo. When you see it in person, it is pretty jarring. I know a few people that commented on it without any suggestion from me. Maybe they were thinking safety but that area is within a locked gate for heaven's sake.

(sigh) about the stars too!

Seems like a terrible waste of energy to me.

Wait until they get their first electric bill...and spend a month or so changing bulbs. I'll bet you see a cut back ;-)

M- I totally agree with you. People around here get so crazed about scaring away gangs and what not with lights, they don't realize the neighborhood starts to look like a prison yard. There has to be a better way.

I know exactly what you are referring to in Chicago- I've seen it too. We are having streetscaping done around here and we were on the planning commitee. Fortunately everyone was all about not wanting to shine lights in people's windows.
