Happy Spring!

The robins are back, the grass is starting to green up, bulbs are popping and it was 60 degrees here in Chicago this weekend! All of this can mean only one thing to those of us with yards: Yard Work!

Time to make a little field trip to my favorite garden center and plant a few pots. This year I decided to go with all pinks. All these annuals are cold tolerant (pansies, carnations, violets, etc...) so hopefully will survive the fickle Chicago weather!

I added the little pine trees to my pots last November and the goal is to keep them living year round and just add some annuals or greenery depending on the season. The made it through the winter (there are two of them) pretty well.

I love pansies. They make such a nice addition to any pot or garden. The urn looks lovely.

Nice pot. My small spruce that was in a pot for Christmas is still living, but I was going to toss it aside for spring.. maybe not.

I like that idea! I might have to do something similar... can take it in for Christmas, even!

Joceylyn,

Glad you found our attempt to green rebuild in Harlem! Best luck to you in Chi-town.

I love the happy spring containers you planted. Last year I went with two containers and filled them with mixed hen and chick succulents - they are great, bloom, and dont require a lot of watering.

Where is your favorite garden center?

Sorry, I usually post links rather than be so cryptic.

I love Gethsemane Garden Center in Andersonville for their selection and knowledgable staff. It's not the place for bargains though, so I usually get some things there and some at Loews and Home Depot and some other smaller places that I know but can't recall the names of. There is a good one in Evanston, but I can't remember the name. They grow alot from seed there and their prices are quite good.

I love Gethsemane as well, and when it was just the condo balcony I had to find plants for, it was easy to keep to a budget. Now, I'm not so sure...
